Yoga saved my life.

In February of 2013, I was riding my bike in Chicago when a woman opened her car door into the bike lane. I was thrown from my bike into traffic and run over by a truck. I broke 23 (of 24) ribs, both sides of my pelvis, both collarbones, my left hip, left shoulder, fractured a vertebra, punctured a lung, and cracked my skull.

Doctors didn’t think I would survive, let alone walk again.

I know for a fact that if I had not been practicing asana regularly before the accident (I was, in fact, on my way home from class when it happened), I would not be alive today. Doctors have credited my survival, in large part, to the flexibility and resilience in my spine. And I know also, that had I not returned to regular practice as soon as possible afterwards, I would not have recovered anywhere close to the place I am.

​In the years since the accident, my yoga practice has transformed from purely physical pursuit to a lifestyle that guides me on a path toward continuous self-improvement inside and out. But I will always believe fully in the transformative power of movement. Building a connection to the physical body is an essential first step to creating change in the deeper, more subtle parts of the self. With intention, determination, and practice the impossible is revealed as a myth.

“Smart 60”

26 poses and 2 breathing exercises flowing over 60 minutes. Ready for a power hour? This skilled format moves through the traditional series at a heart-pounding clip, perfect for beginners and seasoned students looking to supplement their regular practice.

 

“Original 90”

Enjoy 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises over 90 minutes in 105F degree heat.  Even the stiffest of beginners are always welcome to this heart-thumping sweatfest.  Laugh, struggle, and learn as you irrigate freshly-oxygenated blood throughout your body, from head-to-toe, bones-to-skin, and inside-out.  Come radiate!

FRIDAYS, 12PM @ THE LAB CHICAGO

“All Levels”

In our All Levels classes you will slowly warmup the body and keep building to more dynamic postures and movements. Instructors will give step by step instructions so that all practitioners feel included and like they can progress at their own pace. New students will feel supported, while seasoned yogis will feel challenged and have the space to grow. In our open classes, teachers create a new unique sequence for every class so every session is fresh and unique.

All Levels and Intermediate classes at the Lab build up to peak postures, muscle actions or heat building sweat! All classes end with a methodical unwind and Savasana, so you will leave the studio feeling refreshed. Come ready to relax and mindfully work:)

Go deeper in your practice with one-on-one instruction. We’ll start by defining your goals and then work together to help you achieve them through detailed attention to breath, alignment, and form.
